Ph.D. in History  (Doctor of Philosophy in History) is a three-year full-time doctorate program that focuses on the study of written human events and records. It describes a vast range of prehistoric social, cultural, religious, political, and economic changes. It allows pupils to learn about some of history’s most important people, events, and cultures. This programme has a minimum term of three years and a maximum duration of five years.

The entrance exam for the Ph.D. in History programme is followed by an interview performed by the individual universities. Candidates who have completed UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF), UGC-NET (including JRF), SLET, GATE, teaching fellowship, or M.Phil. The Entrance Test is waived for this programme, but it is needed to attend the Interview.

Ph.D. History Eligibility

The following are the most frequent Ph.D. in History eligibility criteria for being accepted into a college that offers this course:

  • Any aspiring applicants must have earned a minimum of 55 percent (50 percent for SC/ST/PH candidates) or an equivalent grade from a University or a recognized institution of higher learning after completing an M.Phil degree and a Postgraduate degree in a relevant area.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 55 percent (50 percent for SC/ST/PH candidates) or an equivalent grade from a university or a recognized institution of higher learning, as well as five years of senior-level teaching, industry, administration, or professional experience.
  • Students without an M.Phil. must pass a post-graduate history course with a minimum of 50% aggregate to be considered for direct admission to the Ph.D. programme. They must pass Part I of the examination. The thesis must be submitted within three years following the end of the three-year period.
  • Pass in a Master’s Degree in History with M.Phil in History for students having an M.Phil in History. The Part I examination is waived for these students. The thesis has a two-year deadline for submission.
