National level entrance exams such as UGC NET / UGC CSIR NET / GATE / SLET or University entrance exam consisting of written exams and personal interviews while some universities provide admissions on a merit basis for Ph.D. in Sociology.

Ph.D. Sociology: Eligibility

  •  Candidates must have earned a Master’s Degree in Sociology or a subject in sociology from a recognized university/institution with a minimum of 55 percent.
  • The candidate must hold an MPhil degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university/institution with a minimum of 55 percent.
  • According to UGC guidelines, reserved category SC / ST / OBC / PH applicants are given a 5% or equivalent grade relaxation.
  • Candidates should have strong communication abilities, including the ability to express themselves both verbally and in writing.
  • Candidates in their final year of study who intend to complete all of their qualifying degree requirements by the third week of July of the course start date are eligible to apply.
  • Five years of senior-level teaching, industry, administration, or professional experience.
  • There is no minimum age restriction to apply for the course.
  • Candidates are required to be fluent in English for their degree; however, some specialist colleges will teach in Hindi, Urdu, or other Indian languages.
  • Candidates who have completed the UGC NET, SET, SLET, or M. Phil are excluded from taking the university-administered admission written test but must attend the personal interview round.
